Groundhog's Got Me Thinking Warm...

Groundhog Day is kinda special for me. It's the day, 7 years ago, that my (new) h-band and I started dating. So I can't help but pay attention to the day and that cute little rodent's prediction. Today, it turns out, Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter. I'm cool with that. The combination of falling in love in the winter and knowing how to bundle properly to withstand the cold makes me quite the fan of this season.

Still, I have warmer weather on the brain, mainly b/c I'll be trekking to Florida later this week to visit my family. With that said, I gotta give props to eco crafty items that are reminiscent of warmth, tropics, etc. This in no way makes me a hater of winter. On the contrary, it's still the best in my book. That said, here are my warming finds for today...

Love with a Twist of Eco

The season of love is fast approaching! I'm focusing on eco-friendly love themed items this week to get everyone in the love zone!

Perhaps it's cliche, but hearts and jewelry are one of the first things a lot of people think of when considering V-day gifts. Why not put an eco-spin on these items? Here are examples where artists did just that!

The Body Scrub to Die for...

Helena's Organic Botanical Shop offers the yummiest (I'm sorry, there's just no other word for it) body scrub ever! I purchased her "Organic Fine Sea Salt and Botanical Body Scrub with Mowrah Butter" (yes, it's a mouthful), and had sweet almond oil and coffee grinds added to it. After my first use I came out of the shower smelling like some heavenly mix of coffee and vanilla and found my skin to be fabulously moisturized!

This scrub is perfect for this time of year especially, where I usually come out of a hot shower feeling like a dried up prune with the lack of humidity in the air. This scrub exfoliates and does my moisturizing for me! No need to take an extra 10 minutes to apply some stinky and sticky moisturizer all over. If you haven't figured it out already, I can't say enough good things about this shop! I think the best part is that there are a ton of natural and organic ingredients in this scrub, and its prepared by hand! It's well worth the cost, and I'm totally going back for more, as soon as I need a refill!

Oooh, try out Helena's lip balms too! I purchased a lemon/blueberry blend and it's quite delicious. Hope you derive as much pleasure from her shop as I have!

Eco Dispenser

Oooh, these soap dispensers made of recycled glass by BreadandBadger (of Portland, Oregon) are so pretty! And aside from their recycled nature, the earth also benefits because you no longer have to purchase those plastic soap dispensers that get a one-time use, are flimsy and bendable, and then need to be recycled (which is just extra energy expenditure that is unnecessary). And let's face it, these dispensers are just flat out good looking...

Take it Off

Take it all off (your makeup that is) with washable and reusable makeup removal pads by EcoKate!

These can be dotted with some olive oil diluted in water, and will take your makeup right off! (I say this from experience.)

These are also great for just exfoliating. A more natural way to do that is to dab baking soda that's been saturated with water onto a pad and scrub away. It's good to re-moisturize after this process if your face is feeling dry.

A Soapy Situation

This soapy goodness is handmade by InseineCreations (pronounced "In-sane"), who has a very focused and inspiring view point behind the soaps she makes and sells:
I became interested in body products after I realized a lot of products contain ingredients that only dry out your skin, and therefore make you use more of their product, rather than pampering the skin and moisturizing it. It's a vicious cycle! My goal is for my customers not only to be able to pronounce all of the ingredients in my products, but to understand what they are and what they do. I only use cosmetic grade ingredients in my products, and use of animal products is limited (goat's milk and beeswax in some items). All products are tested on ME, my family, and my close friends before being offered to the public.

This shop's got my heart!
