Green in More Ways Than One

Cosaverde.com is this awesome site that showcases eco-friendly handmade items for sale. You could be selling your handmade stuff on Etsy, 1000Markets, Artfire, Dawanda, and many other places, and still get it showcased on Cosa Verde, making it a great one-stop resource for eco-friendly items. Albeit, the site is still in its infancy, it's coming along quite nicely. I've searched for green items on Cosa Verde to give you a taste of what you can find on this site...

The Body Scrub to Die for...

Helena's Organic Botanical Shop offers the yummiest (I'm sorry, there's just no other word for it) body scrub ever! I purchased her "Organic Fine Sea Salt and Botanical Body Scrub with Mowrah Butter" (yes, it's a mouthful), and had sweet almond oil and coffee grinds added to it. After my first use I came out of the shower smelling like some heavenly mix of coffee and vanilla and found my skin to be fabulously moisturized!

This scrub is perfect for this time of year especially, where I usually come out of a hot shower feeling like a dried up prune with the lack of humidity in the air. This scrub exfoliates and does my moisturizing for me! No need to take an extra 10 minutes to apply some stinky and sticky moisturizer all over. If you haven't figured it out already, I can't say enough good things about this shop! I think the best part is that there are a ton of natural and organic ingredients in this scrub, and its prepared by hand! It's well worth the cost, and I'm totally going back for more, as soon as I need a refill!

Oooh, try out Helena's lip balms too! I purchased a lemon/blueberry blend and it's quite delicious. Hope you derive as much pleasure from her shop as I have!

Eco Dispenser

Oooh, these soap dispensers made of recycled glass by BreadandBadger (of Portland, Oregon) are so pretty! And aside from their recycled nature, the earth also benefits because you no longer have to purchase those plastic soap dispensers that get a one-time use, are flimsy and bendable, and then need to be recycled (which is just extra energy expenditure that is unnecessary). And let's face it, these dispensers are just flat out good looking...

If there was ever an nontraditional design and coloring that would allow me to stray from the more traditional Christmas stocking look, it'd be this puppy.

Knitting is B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Especially when you knit with yarn MADE from banana fibers, like this beautiful skein from blondechicken...

"This unusual yarn is handspun from recycled banana fibers. The fibers are collected by women in Nepal from the remnants from the sari weaving looms. They sort it by color and handspin the fibers and sell it through fair trade co-ops that provide educational opportunities. Banana fiber was extracted from banana trees (bananière , in French)-mostly their stems and leaves. When it comes to my home, I dye it in soft shades that aren't offered by the co-op. Bananiere is an incredibly strong yarn and will knit into beautiful (and unique) bags and shawls."
