Today my stomach is getting the best of me, thanks to a fellow Twitterer who shared a quasi-local cupcake shop's website, which has some delicious-looking selections. It inspired me to look for eco-friendly eats on Etsy, the land of handmade.

The MotherBar (pictured above) seems to be the answer to my eco-sweet tooth. They're made of a plethora of organic ingredients including organic oats, organic cane sugar, natural peanut butter, organic sesame seeds & organic ground flaxseed, plus you can add two more ingredients of your choosing! Granola bars have always been a great treat in my eyes, and even more so in my mouth, and MotherBars look like they'd rank up there as mouth-watering.

It's a Mouse in a Box!

This is one of lapomme's boxed universe pieces. A plush mouse in an embroidered flower patch, all neatly packed into a vintage tin! I find these boxed universes to be completely adorable and fun collection pieces for young and old alike!

I'm Shameless

This week the self promotion posts are off the hook, especially considering I haven't really talked about what I sell since like my first post on this blog. But hey, there's nothing wrong with doing something for yourself every once in a while...

So yeah, I really just wanted to point out some of the eco-friendly items in my first born store, ShutterKate.com

Basically, I have a few items that are made from recycled yarn (yarn I buy from others who unravel it from used sweaters and the like)...

First and foremost is my most recent listing, this crocheted wrist cuff in a beautiful, silky cotton yarn that's recycled.

I purchased this and other fabulous recycled yarns from defaceReconstruct.

This next item is a knitted camera pouch. The yarn itself isn't recycled, but the inner lining I made from an old sweater of mine that was beyond repair. I simply cut the sweater and hand sewed it into the pouch to make a nice bit of extra protective lining.


These last two items are both made from the same recycled silk/cashmere blend yarn.

First is this light and luxurious burgundy pair of wrist warmers:


And the second is this wrist cuff, knit from my own design:


The delicate silk/cashmere blend yarn used for these last two creations I purchased from another store that recycles yarn: CraftyYarn

So that should give people a better idea of how I try to be eco-friendly in all of my crafting, more and more as I progress (and have the funds to buy pricier recycled yarns). Aside from the crafts themselves, I have other methods of keeping my crafting and selling eco-friendly. You can read about them here if you'd like.

Even the interior pages of the journal are made of a certain percentage of post consumer recycled paper, so you can't go wrong! And as always, buying items with a handmade touch that are made more locally than China, unless China is local for you of course, are wonderful added eco-bonuses.

Green Makeup Removal

I know what you're thinking... Who wears green makeup? Sorry for the confusing title. Ok, I'm not really sorry. I dig confusing double meanings. But yeah, what I'm talkin' about with my blog title isn't the removal of green makeup, albeit I'm sure there are circumstances where green makeup removal is necessary. No, what I speak of is the removal of makeup in a green, earth-friendly way.



How is this possible, you ask? Welp, I crocheted up these fun little cotton cloth pads (pictured above) that you can dab some olive oil and water on, in order to remove your makeup in a more natural way that involves much less waste, as these pads can be rinsed, washed and reused, thus replacing throw-away cotton balls and other disposable makeup removal items.

So yes, now you know there's a greener way to clean your face! Why not take advantage of that knowledge and go snatch up a set of makeup removal pads from my shop!
